Customs cooperation, the head of Customs receives the Head of the CEFTA Secretariat

The Director General of Customs, Mr. Besmir Beja, hosted a meeting with the Director of the CEFTA Secretariat (Central European Free Trade Agreement), Ms. Pranvera Kastrati, where the focus of the discussion was Albania's role within the CEFTA Presidency for 2026 and priorities in the field of customs cooperation.
During the conversation, Director Beja praised the role of CEFTA as an essential mechanism for strengthening economic stability and trade security in the region, as well as a concrete platform for bringing member countries closer to the European common market.
The Director General emphasized that for the Albanian Customs Administration, regional cooperation is not simply a formal commitment, but a practical instrument to increase transparency, guarantee faster procedures and offer businesses a more predictable environment.
Ms. Kastrati praised the fact that Albania's leadership during 2025 of the Subcommittee on Customs and Rules of Origin was a success story based on important technical and decision-making processes such as the establishment of the CEFTA Advisory Body for Customs Cooperation in the field of tariff classification and rules of origin, the strengthening of joint risk management mechanisms, the further development of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program, the development of e-commerce in CEFTA countries, etc.
According to Ms. Kastrati, deepening coordination in the field of risk management, electronic data exchange and the implementation of common rules of origin is essential to guarantee simultaneous security and trade facilitation throughout the region.
The meeting reaffirmed the joint commitment to continue with concrete steps towards an even more structured cooperation, transforming Albania's Presidency of CEFTA into an opportunity to consolidate the achievements to date and to advance processes that directly impact the improvement of the business climate and the advancement of regional and European economic integration.
