Elbasan-Lekaj highway, the works are about to start - 6 contracts worth 148 million euros have been signed, the works will last 24 months
The construction of the Elbasan - Lekaj highway will cost 148 million euros, including VAT. The Albanian Road Authority has signed the contracts with the companies that were declared winners and that will implement the works in the 6 lots of this axis. With the signing of the contracts, the way is opened for the start of the works that, according to the tender documents, will last 24 months, or in other words, they will be completed in December 2026.
This road axis has a length of 40.7 km and passes through the regions of Elbasan (Bradashesh, Shirgjan, Gjegjan, Cërrik, Papër), Peqin (Pajovë, Shez, Gjocaj, Peqin, Karine) and Kavajë (Sinaballaj, Rrogozhinë). It starts near the former Metallurgical Plant in Elbasan and ends in Lekaj, near Rrogozhina.
Elbasan - Lekaj is one of the segments of Corridor 8, which means that after the completion of the works it will be a highway, while referring to the tender documents, the allowed speed will be in the range of 90 - 140 km/h.
Corridor 8 is considered the core infrastructure project in our country, while currently work is being done on 8 other lots, from Elbasan towards Qafë Thana. This is a public work, which will receive the largest part of road budget funds for the year 2025, with about 8.8 billion ALL planned.
