The State Labor Inspectorate welcomed a high-level delegation from the Republic of Austria, within the framework of a 3-day visit for exchange of experiences and technical support in order to strengthen the labor inspection system in Albania and the EU integration process.
During the meetings, topics such as the implementation and transposition of the European Directives on Safety and Health at Work, the use of technology in inspections, and measures to combat the informal economy were discussed. The Attaché for Social Affairs at the Austrian Embassy in Tirana expressed Austrian support for our country in the implementation of EU directives. But, among other things, he appreciates the implementation and use of Artificial Intelligence in this process.
Harald Breza- Fugger Attaché for Social Affairs at the Austrian Embassy in Albania
"We will support the Albanian side in the framework of the implementation of EU directives, so that Albania, in terms of the fight against undeclared work or the implementation of legislation, can reach the levels foreseen by the European directives. We have started in cooperation with the Labor Inspectorate in Albania and the Inspectorates, line ministries cooperate with our ministry, with the Labor Inspectorate in Austria. Our goal is to help Albania in its efforts towards EU integration, with our experience and with the suggestions coming from Brussels. Of course, the topics of our discussion are the personnel who will work in the labor commissariats, the method of financing, the practice and exchange of experience between the two countries, but also the implementation and use of artificial intelligence, which Albania has launched and which is also becoming interesting for us in Austria. One of the main topics of this cooperation and in the first concrete case is cooperation in the construction sector. We note that in Tirana but also throughout Albania, as well as In Austria, this sector is moving forward very fast, it is very intensive, and undoubtedly for us it is a challenge that we must realize, so the control that must be done in the construction sector. It is discussed, how it can be realized if the illegal work continues, if the employees are registered, and if they are protected, if they have social protection, so all these are topics that we are discussing. Also if these employees pay taxes.
According to the Chief Inspector at the State Labor Inspectorate, this cooperation will be fruitful, with the focus being on the exchange of experience between the two countries.
Eljo Muçaj, Chief Inspector at the State Labor Inspectorate
"The visit of the Austrian colleagues is coordinated with the Ministry of Labor in Austria through the Austrian Embassy in Albania, and this comes within the framework of the partnership and twinning that Albanian institutions will have with EU institutions within the framework of integration, in accordance with the standards for closing chapters. An important process, very challenging, but from which we will learn a lot, in the Albanian institutions in the coming years they will be accustomed to EU standards ."
The visit continued with field inspections, where Austrian inspectors joined groups of Albanian inspectors for joint inspections in the construction sector.
