Albana Koçiu, career from head of administration to number two in the

Albana Koçiu will be the Deputy Prime Minister of Albania, leaving the post she held as Minister of the Interior. Albana Koçiu was born in Tirana, on July 10, 1977.

Ms. Koçiu completed her higher education at the Faculty of Social Sciences (1996-2000), at the University of Tirana with successful achievements, specializing with a Master of Science on the monitoring of the social services system in Albania (2005-2007). She has continued her academic contribution as an Associate Professor from 2010 to 2022 at the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Tirana.

In 2001, Ms. Koçiu joined the staff of the Municipality of Tirana, as Director of the Human Resources Directorate. Subsequently, she has also covered other important duties as Director of the Economic Center for Children's Development and Education during the period 2007-2008, and as General Director of the General Directorate of Services Management during the period 2008-2011.

In the last government, Ms. Koçiu held the position of Minister of Internal Affairs since September 2025.

Prior to this position, she was Minister of Health and Social Protection, starting in September 2023. Previously, Albana Koçiu held the position of Director of the Department of Public Administration, since 2013.

Within this task, Ms. Albana Koçiu was appointed by the Albanian government as a negotiator in the screening process with the European Commission, leading the Albanian delegations at a technical level regarding the Public Administration Reform (PAR) process.

During her mandate, she has initiated with professionalism and integrity important reforms in this sector on the organization of the administration of a state, aiming at increasing standards and approximating the relevant legal framework with that of the European Union. She has been appreciated for her work, where she has also stood out at the regional level by being proposed as a Member of the Governing Board of the Western Balkans Regional School of Public Administration (RESPA), a responsibility which she carried out with efficiency and devotion until the moment of her departure following her appointment to the new position of Minister.

Ms. Koçiu has a total of over 20 years of experience in management, in leadership positions in central and local administration, with a particular focus in the field of human resources management, as well as social services.
