AKSK warns citizens: Beware of misleading messages about traffic fines

The National Cyber Security Authority (AKSK) has warned citizens to be careful of a fraud scheme that is circulating through telephone messages, which are falsely presented as notifications from the Traffic Police for alleged traffic violations and payment of fines.

According to AKSK, the messages are sent from foreign numbers and contain suspicious links, short deadlines for payment, threats of administrative measures, as well as offers to reduce the value of the fine. Their purpose is to create a sense of urgency and deceive citizens into clicking on fake pages or providing personal and banking information.

The Authority calls on citizens not to click on the links sent, not to respond to requests for confirmation or sending personal data, and to verify any notifications only through official institutional channels.

AKSK also recommends that the sending number be blocked and the message be reported as spam, to avoid other cases of fraud.

If a citizen has filled in their bank details on such a fraudulent website, the authority advises contacting the relevant bank immediately, so that the necessary measures can be taken to protect the account.

"Public institutions do not request payments, security codes, passwords or banking data through links sent from unknown numbers," AKSK reminds, appealing to citizens not to act under pressure and to always verify any notification before taking any action.
