AKMC, calls to municipalities: Assess areas at risk of flooding - Meetings with districts to apply for projects aimed at reducing the risk
Albania, like other European countries, is exposed to natural phenomena such as heavy rains, floods, landslides, avalanches and other situations that require coordination and quick response. But what has the National Civil Protection Agency accomplished to cope with emergencies or to prevent them?
"So far, meetings have been held with prefectures and municipalities, on the measures they should take within their territory. We have asked you for an assessment of areas at risk of floods, landslides and avalanches, based on the national risk assessment. The municipalities most exposed to these risks are Berati, Fieri, Shkodra and Vlora. We have asked you for continuous monitoring of critical flood risk infrastructure such as dams, reservoirs, levees and embankments. You have been asked to set up an early warning system for monitoring and timely notification of citizens."
According to the National Agency of Civil Protection, the call also goes to the municipalities, which must strengthen the local operational capacities for response and dealing with emergencies. While meetings were held with the 12 districts, but what was the purpose of these meetings?
"We have completed meetings in 12 districts and the call for acceptance of projects financed by the Albanian state through AKMC continues to remain open until November 25. This call is an opportunity for municipalities to apply for projects aimed at reducing the risk from natural disasters, such as investments in dams, infrastructure and emergency equipment."
The National Agency of Civil Protection emphasizes that the coordination of structures and the commitment of local government are necessary for an effective response and the protection of life and property of citizens.
