7 thousand old vehicles are finally deregistered - DPSHTRR: Towards safer roads and less pollution

As part of measures to improve road safety and environmental protection, the General Directorate of Road Transport Services announces that during the period January-October 2025, 7,071 vehicles were permanently removed from circulation throughout the country.
These vehicles have been definitively deregistered, as they did not meet traffic safety standards; did not meet mandatory technical conditions and presented a high degree of depreciation and wear.
According to data from the General Directorate of Road Transport Services, the average age of the deregistered fleet is around 22 years old. This process is an important step towards the modernization of road transport in the country, as it affects road safety, as well as has a positive impact on the environment, significantly reducing pollution caused by old vehicles.
Meanwhile, in the same period, a 24% increase in the number of technical tests was recorded compared to 2023. During the first 10 months of 2025, a total of 268,999 technical tests were carried out for vehicles in circulation.
Of the total number of vehicles tested, personal vehicles make up the majority with 86.2%, followed by trucks with 6.2%, motorcycles with 4.9%, buses with 1.8%, while trailers and work vehicles account for 0.5 and 0.4% of tests, respectively.
This increase indicates a higher awareness of drivers, as well as an improvement in the technical control and monitoring of vehicles circulating on Albanian roads.
