"65.5 million euros of confiscated and seized assets" - SPAK Report, record value in 2024
Around 65.5 million euros is the value of assets confiscated and sequestered by SPAK during 2024. According to the annual report of this institution, the value of confiscated assets reaches a figure of 36.8 million euros, while those seized are around 27.7 million euros. This is the value of confiscations and sequestrations within the framework of the Anti-Mafia Law, the Criminal Code and the Normative Act.
Of the total, about 56.2% are confiscations and 43.8% are seizures, the vast majority of which are processed under the Anti-Mafia Law and the Criminal Code.
The value of assets confiscated and sequestered by SPAK reached record figures last year. The data from the report shows that despite a decrease in the number of assets confiscated in 2024, the value is higher than in 2023. Specifically, the value of confiscated assets is 938 million lek from 440 million lek in 2023, and 27 million euros from about 18 million euros previously.
Meanwhile, the value of seized assets has also increased significantly. In 2024, there was a 47% increase in the value of these assets compared to 2023, meaning their value reached 2.8 billion lek from 1.9 billion lek in the previous year.
The Agency for the Administration of Confiscated and Sequestrated Assets recently published a catalog on the number of confiscated assets since 2022. Referring to the catalog, around 265 assets have been confiscated in total by 2024. Most of them are concentrated in Tirana and coastal cities, while the majority are apartments, residential buildings, or agricultural land, but there is also no shortage of hotels or other business units.
