62.5 million lek for dangerous junctions - ARRSH: Source of accidents, intervention in 5 black spots on national roads

With a bid of 62.5 million lekë, the Albanian Road Authority has announced the winner of the tender for "Elimination of Black Spots in the National Road Network", an intervention that aims to increase road safety in some of the most problematic segments of the country, where accidents with serious consequences have been recorded.
The project will be implemented under a "turnkey" contract, including the design, construction and commissioning of road safety measures. The interventions have been selected based on official State Police data and the accident database, where high-risk road junctions and segments have been identified.
According to the tender documents, the works will focus on several major black spots on important national axes, including the Laknas–Bërxulle intersection on the Airport road, the Përparim junction on the Elbasan–Rrogozhinë axis, the Dajç–Gramsh and Gjadër junctions on the Balldre–Mabë Kthesa axis, as well as the Ypsilon junction at the entrance to Fushë-Krujë. These areas are characterized by high vehicle flow, lack of safety elements and geometric road problems.
The interventions to be implemented include improvements to the geometry of junctions, the construction of dedicated lanes for entry-exit and left turns, the installation of vertical and horizontal signage, road safety elements, and road lighting. The goal is to reduce the number of accidents and improve traffic conditions for drivers and other road users.
According to the ARRSH, the project will be implemented in phases, ensuring traffic management during the works and minimizing the impact on road traffic.
