34 million euros extra for agriculture - Farmers get the biggest share. How funding is projected until 2028
Financial support for the agricultural sector in the country will continue to increase, although in relation to its needs, the funds allocated are still at a low level.
In the 2025-2028 medium-term budget published in the Official Gazette, a slight progressive increase in the budget for agriculture is foreseen from year to year.
Specifically, from the 146 million euros programmed to be spent in 2025, in 2026 the budget goes to 151 million euros, in 2027 to 156 million euros, and in 2028 it is expected to reach around 180 million euros.
The budget overrun from this year until 2028 is recorded at 34 million euros.
In relation to gross domestic product, the budget remains at the same levels as this year and in 2028, at 0.56% of GDP.
The largest weight in the budget for agriculture is the rural development item, supporting agricultural, livestock and agro-industrial production, where the projected funds exceed the 72 million euros expected this year to 98 million euros in 2028, with an increase of 28 million euros.
This item also includes funds allocated to support farmers through the National Agricultural Support Scheme, which in recent years has been around 30 million euros per year, promotion, etc.
A budget reduction from 26 million euros in 2025 to 24 million euros in 2028 is foreseen for food safety and consumer protection in the country.
Funds for the management of drainage and irrigation infrastructure are also projected to decrease, from 29 million euros in 2025 to 22 million euros in 2028, a decrease of 7 million euros.
Meanwhile, support for fishing is expected to double by 2028, reaching around 12 million euros.
The government anticipates that through financing, it will increase employment in rural areas and the volume of exports, which is intended to reach a figure of 620 million euros in 2028.
