2025, a record year for euro payments with AIPS/ Marks double-digit growth in number and value of transactions

The AIPS–EURO system marked a record year in 2025, both in the number and value of transactions carried out by bank customers.
According to official data from the Bank of Albania, 398 thousand transactions were carried out in 2025, a significant increase compared to previous years. For comparison, in 2024, around 325 thousand transactions were recorded, while in 2023 only 249 thousand. This shows that the use of euro payments through the AIPS system is growing rapidly, reflecting an increasingly greater integration of the Albanian economy with European markets.
Not only the number, but also the value of transactions has seen strong growth. During 2025, over 6.3 billion euros were transferred through AIPS–EURO, up from around 5.2 billion euros in 2024. In just three years, the value of payments has increased by almost 50%, a clear indicator of the expansion of financial and commercial activity in euros.
If we look at the monthly performance, December is the strongest month of 2025, both in terms of the number and value of transactions. In December alone, over 42 thousand payments were made, with a value of around 716 million euros. This peak is mainly related to the closing of the fiscal year, business payments and the increase in commercial activity at the end of the year.
On the other hand, January and February are the quietest months, reflecting the traditionally slower pace of the economy at the beginning of the year.
Overall, 2025 confirms the maturation of the AIPS–EURO system, the increase in the trust of citizens and businesses in electronic payments in euros, as well as an economy increasingly oriented towards European financial circulation standards.
In contrast to the inefficient way the market previously operated through correspondent banks abroad, the operation of the AIPS Euro System enables Albanian citizens to make payments in euros within the country at a much lower cost and within a much shorter timeframe than the previous process carried out through correspondent banks.
