14 thousand new smart meters - OSSH opens tender with 432 million lek fund, Tirana and Durrës included
With a limit fund of 432.3 million lek, the Distribution System Operator has opened the tender for the installation of a smart metering system for end customers, in the energy balance measurement system in medium and low voltage electrical cabinets (TM-TU), as well as their integration into the company's metering platform.
The procedure has been announced by the Durrës Regional Directorate of the Public Utilities Company and provides for the installation of smart meters in the Durrës and Tirana regions, following the strategy for replacing the analog metering system with smart technology.
According to the tender documents, the project includes the installation of 15 smart metering panels in TM-TU booths and 14,035 smart meters for end customers. Of these, 3,192 meters will be installed in direct metering customers, while the rest will be installed in end customers supplied from booths where the new metering systems will be installed.
According to the OSSH, the project is related to the continuation of previous investments in the smart metering system. In 2023, 1,752 smart balance metering systems were installed in the TM-TU cabins in the Durrës region, while during 2024, 848 smart meters were installed for end customers supplied by these cabins.
The OSSH argues that the expansion of the smart metering system is related to the need to increase network efficiency, improve consumption monitoring and reduce energy losses, especially in areas with high consumption.
