Draft resolution on integration, debates in the Assembly - Hasani: Membership, strategic objective. Vokshi: The process is kept hermetic
The Parliament is holding a debate on a motion on Albania's accession process to the European Union. The draft resolution was presented by the chairman of the Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani.
"Albania's EU membership constitutes a national strategic objective and guides and orients the entire transformation agenda of the country, underlining the constitutional responsibility of the Assembly for overseeing the integration process, strengthening parliamentary control and guaranteeing transparency. Emphasizing that the European orientation is of nationwide strategic importance that enjoys broad civic support. The Assembly of Albania reiterates that progress in the membership process must be measured on the basis of merit, democratic standards and verifiable achievements. The majority is committed to ensuring the conditions for the full participation of the opposition in parliamentary activity, to respecting its demands in accordance with democratic standards, the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly. Meanwhile, Democratic MP Albana Vokshi accused the majority of keeping the negotiation process secret, and demanded that the draft resolution be fully implemented.
"The resolution is based on the report that was brought in, which is among the weakest ever. It does not answer any questions and does not inform the public. That is why you keep the entire process secret."

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, responded to the opposition's accusations, emphasizing that the union pays maximum attention to Albania.
