135 euros more for white shirts/ How have the salaries of doctors and nurses

The white shirts have returned to the government's attention. At the end-of-year conference, Prime Minister Rama announced that there will be a salary increase for doctors and nurses, saying that the salary is expected to increase by 135 euros per month, according to categories, while the recognition of seniority in work and its evaluation will also be included in the payment scheme.

But, this is not the first time that doctors and nurses have come to the attention of the government.

In 2017, for emergency physicians, resuscitation doctors, etc., the salary increased by 18,000 lek/month, while for nurses and emergency laboratory technicians, the salaries increased by 12,000 lek/month.

Meanwhile, for the first doctor in university hospital centers, salaries increased by 6,000–8,000 lek and 5,600–7,600 lek for the second doctor.

Another 5% increase was applied in 2018.

In 2021, in support of the Covid-19 pandemic, the salaries of doctors and nurses increased by 40%, i.e. the average gross salary of nurses went from 50,890 lek to 65,700 lek.

From July 1, 2022, the announced 6% increase was applied, while in 2023 it was followed by another communicated increase of 7%.

In 2024, the government approved another package effective July 1, 2024, which was accompanied by a reformatting of the salary scheme, also abolishing the old 2011 scheme.

These changes have been introduced over the years, as part of measures to strengthen the healthcare system and maintain human resources in service, at a time when Albania has faced constant pressure on staff, especially in key specialties and services.
