Implementation of the law on the formalization of seasonal workers begins/ Aim: to reduce the gray economy and increase security

The implementation of the seasonal workers law has begun in North Macedonia, with the aim of reducing the gray economy and increasing security. According to the Minister of Economy and Labor, Besar Durmishi, the new law is expected to formalize over 17,000 seasonal workers, mainly in the agriculture, tourism and hospitality sectors.
"With this law, we establish a more flexible and simplified model for legal employment of the workforce, with a clear legal framework and electronic procedures for notification, de-notification and collection of contributions. With the implementation of the law, formalization of up to 12,000 seasonal workers in agriculture and about 5,400 unregistered workers in tourism, hospitality and services is expected, or the total inclusion is about 17,400 workers," said Besar Durmishi, Minister of Economy and Labor.
The law guarantees seasonal workers hourly pay, contributions to pension and disability insurance, as well as health insurance in the event of a workplace accident or illness.
About 85,000 people, a year ago, were seasonal workers, without contracts and without health insurance.
