More than 320,000 unemployed in Bosnia - Qualified workers make up over 31% of the total
At the end of July, Bosnia and Herzegovina registered a total of 320,940 unemployed people. These figures reflect a worrying situation for the labor market in the country, with direct impacts on social welfare and economic development.
According to reports, skilled workers make up the largest share of the unemployed, at 31.6 percent of the total, reflecting a mismatch between the skills of the workforce and real market demands.
Meanwhile, 92,051 people (28.68%) are unemployed without qualifications, and 91,668 citizens (28.56%) have secondary education. This distribution highlights the need for reforms in the education system and vocational training that better match the demands of the sector.
In July, 15,776 people entered the unemployment list, while 11,807 people were removed from the registers, meaning that some of them may have found work or emigrated. Also, 10,568 people lost their jobs, another indicator of instability in some sectors of the economy.
During the same period, employers expressed the need to hire 2,539 new people. But the figure remains insufficient to curb the growth of unemployment and stimulate new forces.
Official data show slight changes by entity: in Republika Srpska, unemployment decreased by 91 people (or 0.18%) compared to June, while in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina the number increased by 4,090 people (or 1.61%).
Experts stress the need for more active policies to boost employment. They call for support for small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as a greater commitment to creating new opportunities for young people, who are increasingly seeing emigration as an alternative.
