"Stop increasing prices for the end-of-year holidays" - The Competition Authority calls on businesses in Kosovo

The Kosovo Competition Authority has called on businesses to stop any unjustified price increases during the holiday season. The institution has warned of consequences if there are price increases.
"We recall that any agreement, coordination or unilateral action between businesses that has the purpose or effect of artificially increasing prices, dividing the market, restricting competition or abusing a joint dominant position constitutes a serious violation of the Law on Protection of Competition and is subject to legal sanctions," the announcement states.
AKM has stated that prices should reflect real market conditions and not prohibited agreements, manipulative behavior or exploitation of a joint market position.
The institution has also announced that since the beginning of December, inspectors have been on the ground in every city in Kosovo to monitor and ensure compliance with the rules by businesses.
"From the beginning of December until the end of this month, all Competition Authority inspectors will be on the ground every day in every city in the Republic of Kosovo, carefully and continuously monitoring movements and price increases in the market," the announcement states.
Citizens have complained that prices increase every time on the eve of the holidays, burdening them financially during the festive period.
