Have you planned any trips for the holiday season? - Strikes at some European airports may change your plans

If you're heading home for Christmas or planning a winter break, airport strikes could change your mind. Transport strikes have become a common part of the festive season, as workers target the busiest times of the year to demand better pay and conditions. Some boycotts are planned months in advance, while others are announced just days or hours in advance.
In Italy, on December 17, ground handling staff, airline crew and air traffic controllers will take part in a coordinated strike. The four-hour strike includes ENAV staff at Rome airport, which manages air traffic control; Assohandlers staff covering ground handling at major Italian airports and airlines Ryanair, Wizz Air and easyJet, as well as employees of ITA Airways, Vueling Airlines and Air France.
The protest will last from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, but could cause disruption throughout the day with flight delays and longer check-in queues at the main airports of Milan, Rome, Venice, Naples and Catania.
In the UK, from 19 to 22 and 26 to 29 December, easyJet staff at London Luton Airport will go on strike, causing possible delays to check-in and baggage handling. London Heathrow Airport is also preparing for the chaos of Christmas travel: on 22 to 24 and 26 December, Scandinavian Airlines Services (SAS) crew will walk off the job. Flights to the company's main hubs of Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo are expected to be affected by the decision. The workers are protesting low wages, which union Unite says have forced them to rely on food banks when travelling to expensive Scandinavian destinations.
Meanwhile in Spain, ongoing strikes by baggage handlers are causing delays. Since the summer, staff at Ryanair's Spanish partner, Azul Handling, have been holding weekly strikes over working conditions, bonuses and job security. Strikes will continue on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 5am to 9am, 12pm to 3pm and 9pm to midnight until 31 December. Ryanair passengers may face longer queues and delays at check-in at many Spanish airports.
