Greece, the "magnet" of European tourists - Survey, 29% of respondents plan to travel by May 2027

The dynamics of Greek tourism are confirmed by the first findings of the National Tourism Organization's market research and at the same time highlight the considerable demand beyond the high summer season.
According to the survey, 29% of European travelers say they intend to visit Greece by May 2027, ranking it in third place among the most popular Mediterranean destinations. The highest intention to visit Greece is registered in Romania, with a percentage of 45%, followed by Italy with 38% and Sweden with 37%.
Among those planning to visit Greece by May 2027, 58% have already visited the country, while 42% plan to visit for the first time. These figures reflect both the presence of a significant audience of repeat visitors, as well as the potential of the Greek destination to attract travelers with no previous experience in the country.
The picture regarding the temporal distribution of demand is also particularly positive. Specifically, 35% of those wishing to travel to Greece plan their visit between September and November 2026. September has the highest percentage of preference, as it is chosen by 23% of travelers.
The survey also examines European travelers’ perceptions of Greece and the individual characteristics of the travel experience in the country. The highest scores are recorded for the variety of experiences offered (83%), and for the friendly and welcoming residents (82%). This is followed by safety, with 77%, and the quality of the tourist infrastructure, with 75%. At a relatively lower level, the positive assessment of the quality-price ratio (67%), an element that is one of the points that requires further monitoring.
The research was conducted online from June 10 to 22, 2026, among a sample of 7,896 travelers aged 18 to 64. The survey included individuals who have taken at least one trip abroad in the past two years and/or plan to travel abroad within the next twelve months.
