Real household income per capita in Europe - In which country did it increase the most since the pandemic?

Real household income per capita in the EU has increased by around 7% since the pre-pandemic period, but the differences between 2019 and 2024 vary widely across countries. Nordic countries generally recorded smaller increases, while many countries in Eastern and Central Europe saw stronger growth. Trends over the past decade also vary across Europe.
Household income per person is calculated by dividing a household's adjusted gross disposable income by the total population. This shows how much money households have available to spend, or save. It is measured after income taxes and pension contributions are deducted.
The key point is that it also includes the value of services such as education and healthcare that families receive for free from governments and non-profit organizations.
Croatia recorded the strongest growth in real household income per person over the five years, at 26%. Malta recorded 24%, Hungary 20%, Romania 19% and Poland recorded an increase of 16%, ranking them among the highest increases. Apart from Malta, these countries are outside the euro area and the growth also reflects changes in national currencies.
But this is not the case for the Nordic countries, which are at the bottom of the rankings. Sweden with 1%, Finland with 2% and Denmark with 3% recorded only modest increases. According to the OECD, at the height of the COVID-19 crisis, unemployment rates rose more in the Nordic countries than in other European countries.
Overall, countries outside the eurozone saw stronger growth between 2014 and 2024, with Romania reaching 76%.
