Rule of law, where is Albania going? The country shows gradual improvements and room for development in institutions

The Global Rule of Law Index, published by the World Justice Project, positions Albania among countries that are actively working to improve the functioning of institutions, strengthen the rule of law, and increase citizens' trust in the legal system.
According to the Rule of Law Index, Albania is ranked 87th out of 142 countries in the world in terms of the extent to which the rule of law is present in the daily lives of citizens and the functioning of state institutions.
The assessment is based on eight key factors, which measure how the law is implemented in practice: limitation of government power, transparency and open government, protection of fundamental rights, public order and security, and the functioning of civil and criminal justice. The data show that Albania exhibits stability in terms of order and security, while the legal and institutional framework continues to strengthen.
One of the factors where Albania still appears at a level that requires improvement is that of “Lack of corruption”. However, this challenge is not isolated to our country, as countries in the region have also marked similar developments, reflecting a common space for gradual improvement of the rule of law.
The report highlights that reforms undertaken in recent years, particularly in the justice system, have created a more stable basis for improving law enforcement. These developments are important for increasing citizens' trust in institutions, but also for creating a more predictable climate for investment and economic activity.
In a global context where many countries are facing challenges in the rule of law, Albania is positioned as a country with clear potential for advancement, where the progress achieved serves as a basis for further improvements.
