Global personal wealth/ Which countries own the most in Europe?

According to the latest UBS (Union Bank of Switzerland) report on global wealth in 2025, the United States and China together own more than half of global personal wealth (54%). While Europe holds just 22%, with the five largest European economies dominating the list.

The US holds more than a third of the total global wealth, specifically 34.7% or 151 trillion euros, while China ranks second with 19.4%, respectively 84.2 trillion euros. Japan follows in third place with 4.5% (19.7 trillion euros). The report, which includes 56 countries and markets representing over 92% of global wealth, shows that by the end of 2024, personal wealth on a global scale reached 435 trillion euros.

Europe, including the EU, the UK, Switzerland, Norway and Turkey, holds 22.3% of the total. Within the continent, the UK holds the largest share of global wealth with 3.84%, closely followed by Germany at 3.76%. France follows with 3.3%, while Italy and Spain complete the top European five. These five major economies together represent 15.1% of global wealth, less than China, which accounts for 19.4%.

It is important to note that these figures represent total wealth and the share each country holds globally, but do not show which citizens are wealthiest on an individual level.

According to the report, the combination of a large population and a high level of wealth per person is the main reason the US holds about a third of global wealth. While Beijing follows with a fifth thanks to its large population.

In 2024, Eastern Europe recorded the largest increase in personal wealth, up over 12% compared to the previous year, surpassing even North America. The region added 28,000 new millionaires, an expansion of 2.9%, becoming a strong engine of the economic boom. Meanwhile, Western Europe and Oceania experienced a decline of -1.5%, while Latin America recorded the largest contraction of -4.3%.
