Nuclear power plant in Turkey, Russia provides another 9 billion dollars / Ankara expects the power plant to be operational in 2026.

Turkey's energy minister said Russia had secured new financing worth $9 billion for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant being built by Moscow's state nuclear energy company Rosatom, adding that Ankara expects the plant to be operational in 2026.
Rosatom is building Turkey's first nuclear power plant at Akkuyu in the Mediterranean province of Mersin under a 2010 deal worth $20 billion. The plant was expected to come online this year, but has been delayed.
“This (funding) will most likely be used in 2026-2027. There will be at least $4-5 billion from there for 2026 in terms of foreign financing,” Turkish Minister Bayraktar told several local journalists at a press conference in Istanbul. He said Turkey was in talks with South Korea, China, Russia and the United States on nuclear projects in the Sinop province and the Thrace region, adding that Ankara wanted to get the “most competitive offer.”
Bayraktar said Turkey wanted to generate nuclear energy domestically and aimed to provide clear figures on the targets.
He added that Turkey was in talks with Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power for a 5,000-megawatt solar power package.
"We are also discussing a solar energy and energy storage project with another Gulf firm. The approximate investment cost for this is between $1.5-2 billion," Bayraktar said, without giving details.
