Zelensky: Ukraine is ready to sign minerals agreement with the US!

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters late Sunday that his country is "ready" to sign the US-Ukraine minerals deal.

Just days after leaving the White House without signing the agreement, Zelenskyy said "I just want the Ukrainian position to be heard. We want our partners to remember who the aggressor is in this war."

The agreement was scheduled to be signed after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Zelenskyy on Friday.

However, the meeting degenerated into a heated debate live on TV, with Trump concluding the raw minerals deal with Ukraine that brought Zelenskyy to the White House was powerless.

“I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for peace if America is involved, because he thinks our involvement gives him a huge advantage in the negotiations ,” Trump said in a post on his Social Truth platform on Friday. “ I don’t want advantages, I want peace. He has not respected the United States of America in their beloved Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace, ” he said.

US access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals was first presented to President Volodymyr Zelensky by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in early February.

Washington is seeking a 50% cut of all revenues generated from Ukraine's mineral and natural resources in what US officials have said is payment for past military support.

Under the agreement, Ukraine will contribute the proceeds to a fund, which will then be invested to "promote Ukraine's safety, security and prosperity."

Zelensky has said the agreement must include real security guarantees for Ukraine and has warned against further Russian aggression if these are not implemented.

His comments about the deal came at the end of a two-day summit in the United Kingdom, where UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the UK and France would assemble a "coalition of the willing" that would draft a peace plan for Ukraine.

"We are at a crossroads in history today, " Starmer said. " This is not a moment for more talk. It is time to act. It is time to rise up and lead and unite around a new plan for a just and lasting peace."

Zelensky's comments on the deal come after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CBS News that the Ukrainian leader had "rejected the order" of how the minerals and peace deal was supposed to happen, insisting that the discussions should have taken place in private.

It was "impossible to have an economic agreement without a peace agreement ," Bessent said.
