TruthFi, Trump Plans to Enter the Cryptocurrency Market - Promise: We'll Make the US "The Cryptocurrency Capital of the Planet"
Truth Social, the social media platform owned by US President-elect Donald Trump, appears to be considering a move into the cryptocurrency space.
Trump Media & Technology Group filed for trademark registration last week for TruthFi, which it describes as a platform for processing cryptocurrency payments.
The trademark application contains few details, but mentions several possible uses for TruthFi, including card payment processing services, asset management, escrow services and digital asset trading, CNN writes.
It is not clear how far Trump Media has gone in evaluating a cryptocurrency payment service or whether the public company owned by the 78-year-old will eventually introduce such a platform. Moving into cryptocurrency can be a way to diversify outside of social media.
Trump, who once criticized Bitcoin but has now embraced it, promised during the campaign to make the United States the "cryptocurrency capital of the planet" and create a national cryptocurrency reserve.
