Albanians in the north, foreigners in the south. One party chose to enjoy the beaches and the sun, while the other chose the mountains and untouched nature. According to the latest data from the Institute of Statistics, during the month of September, foreign citizens choose to spend most of the nights in accommodation structures in the south of Albania. They benefited from the beautiful coastline and attractive beaches of the region, where there was a noticeable increase in the number of foreign visitors.
The opposite happened with the Albanians, who preferred to frequent the north, where the mountainous nature and tourist attractions offered opportunities for a quieter vacation closer to nature.
The figures show that there was a doubling of the number of foreign tourists visiting the south. In September 2023, the number of foreigners who spent the night in this area was around 60 thousand, while this year, in September of the current year, this number reached 101 thousand.
On the other hand, the northern area had a decrease in the number of foreigners who stayed in this region, reducing from 54 thousand visitors last year to about 50 thousand this year.
Albanians, for their part, encouraged by the development of mountain tourism, increasingly preferred to spend their vacations in the north.
The number of Albanians who were accommodated in this part of the country increased from 25 thousand to 28 thousand. This growth reflects a clear trend of changing preferences, focusing on mountain tourism and the adventure that the north has to offer.
The high prices that accompanied this tourist season also influenced Albanians' choices for vacation destinations. Accommodation prices in the south of the country rose sharply, which led many Albanians to look for more affordable options in the north.
