Trump letter to Vučić, 35% tariff for Serbia - Imposes 30% duties on imports from Bosnia and Herzegovina
US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of tariffs of 35% on imports from Serbia and 30% on Bosnia and Herzegovina. He stressed that the tariffs could be avoided if companies moved their production to the US.
US President Donald Trump announced tariffs of 35 percent on imports from Serbia and 30 percent on Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Trump informed Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in a letter that the United States will impose additional tariffs of 35 percent on imports of goods from Serbia starting August 1.
The US president said he was "very honored to send a letter that demonstrates the commitment to US-Serbia trade relations and the fact that the US has agreed to continue working with Serbia, despite the significant trade deficit between the two countries."
Trump stressed that there would be no tariffs if Serbia or Serbian companies decided to manufacture their products in the U.S. He also underlined that taxes would increase if Belgrade decided to retaliate by imposing additional measures on imports from the U.S.
In early April, when Trump first raised this issue, tariffs on imports from Serbia were 37 percent, but after the latest decision it was announced that they would be 35 percent.
The American leader also sent a letter to Zeljko Cvijanovic, the chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, informing him that the tariff on imports of goods from Bosnia and Herzegovina would be 30 percent.
These measures are part of the "Reciprocal Tariffs" program, which aims to impose similar trade barriers against countries that, according to the Trump administration, have imposed unfair taxes or barriers on American exports.
