25% tariff on countries doing business with Iran - Trump signs law. Aims to economically isolate the Middle Eastern country

President Donald Trump said that any country that trades with Iran will face a 25% tariff “on all business done with the United States of America.” The new tariff on imports from Iran’s trading partners “takes effect immediately,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Trump's attempt to economically isolate Iran comes at a time when the oil-rich Middle Eastern country is struggling to suppress a continuing wave of mass anti-government protests.
Dozens of these protesters have reportedly been killed in recent weeks. Trump has threatened to take military action against Iran if the killings continue.
The president has also explicitly encouraged demonstrations against the Iranian regime. “Iran is looking for FREEDOM, perhaps like never before. The US is ready to help!!!” he wrote on social media.
The announcement of new tariffs on Iran's business partners also comes ahead of a long-awaited Supreme Court ruling on whether many of Trump's most sweeping tariffs are legal.
These charges, including his controversial “reciprocal” charges from early April and others related to alleged fentanyl trafficking, were implemented using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA.
It was not clear whether Trump's newly unveiled tariffs on Iran are also based on that law.
