The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that it has secured a grant of 136.7 million euros from the European Union for the construction of a northern segment of Corridor 5c.

The grant will be provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and will be allocated to the entity of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to a press release issued by the government. The proposed agreement will be sent for final approval to the tripartite presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The funds will be used for the construction of the Ozimice – Poprikuše subsection of Corridor 5c, which will shorten the travel distance between the cities of Zenica and Doboj, as well as improve road connectivity in the northern part of the segment.

This road axis is one of the most important infrastructure projects in the region, aiming to strengthen economic and trade ties between Southeast Europe and the European Union.

The project is an extension of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and has the continued support of the EU and international financial institutions. Investments in this Corridor are seen as key to Bosnia's economic development and deeper regional integration.

The 325-kilometer section of Corridor 5c in Bosnia and Herzegovina will cross the country from north to south, connecting the Adriatic port of Ploce in Croatia with the Hungarian capital, Budapest. This road axis is a strategic hub for transport and trade in the Western Balkans.
