"The US is losing the AI race" - Nvidia CEO criticizes Trump's decisions: Isolation gives China an advantage

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has warned that China is likely to overtake the United States in the global race for artificial intelligence. Speaking at the Financial Times Future of AI summit, Huang said the US risks losing ground due to restrictive policies that hinder access for global developers.
“China will win the AI race,” Huang told the Financial Times, adding that the US approach of isolating developers could backfire. “A policy that makes America lose half of the world’s AI developers is not beneficial in the long run,” he added.
The statements come at a time of heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing over access to advanced semiconductors. US export restrictions have prevented Nvidia from selling its most advanced chips in China, one of its biggest markets.
Huang stressed that while the US still leads in AI research and infrastructure, the country needs to focus on collaboration rather than isolation. “America needs to win by competing harder and attracting developers from around the world,” he said.
Nvidia's chief has previously warned that the latest US artificial intelligence models are only slightly ahead of Chinese rivals, calling on the government to open up the market for the company's chips so that the world remains dependent on American technology.
After meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Donald Trump declared that he would not allow China access to Nvidia's most advanced Blackwell semiconductors: "Nobody else will have the latest models except the United States," he said.
According to analysts, while both countries aim to lead the race for artificial intelligence, the balance will depend on how the US manages its policies, fostering innovation without jeopardizing strategic interests.
