How does digitalization affect the increase in food safety? - “Klik Ekspo Group”/ Jaupllari: Key element for competitiveness and integration into the EU

Albania is entering a new phase of transformation of the agricultural sector, where digitalization and technology will be the focus of the government with increased competitiveness and food security.
In the panel held during the "Klik Ekspo Group" fair on food safety, with representatives of the main institutions in the field and experts, it was emphasized that the modernization of the agricultural system is an essential condition for integration into the European Union and for ensuring high-standard products.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Arjan Jaupllari, stated that the country is undergoing a total transformation of the way the agricultural sector functions, aiming to use technology as a tool to be competitive in the European market.
"We are in a total transformation of the way it should go to the farmer for the final goal of implementing technology to be competitive. Because if we are going to go to Europe, but how are we going to go to Europe when you don't implement systems, you don't take into account costs, you are not a competitor in the market? The main goal is to use these systems to be competitive. Today we suffer, we don't have agronomists, veterinarians and we have lawyers and endless economics. How can these professionals access, learn and implement technology. This is the approach, we are working in this direction, because food security is a mission, not just a simple obligation and to do this mission we must know, love and feel it. Every day we face food, and with the burden of pesticides, it seems like we are in total stagnation but it is not so. And how is this done, we must change the perception and how is this done, with technology".
On the other hand, the representative of the National Food Authority (AKU), Yllka Allaraj, emphasized the importance of digitalizing food control systems.
"If we have a digitalized traceability system, we can identify problematic products in real time and recall them before they reach the end consumer. This is an innovation for food safety in the country."
Meanwhile, Jonida Boci, Director of the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute (ISUV), described food safety as part of national security and one of the priorities of the integration process.
"Chapter 12, which relates to food safety, is among the first to start meeting EU standards. It is important that all digital systems are connected to each other to ensure traceability and rapid response."
Transforming the agricultural sector and securing the food chain through innovation are considered necessary steps for increasing economic sustainability and accelerating the path towards European integration.
