OpenAI introduces GPT-4.5. New language model offers improvements in information accuracy
OpenAI has released the research preview of GPT-4.5, a broad, general-purpose language model. It will initially be available to software developers and ChatGPT Pro subscribers.
The model presents less incorrect information than its predecessors, OpenAI said in a blog post.
“Early testing shows that interacting with GPT‑4.5 feels more natural. Its broader knowledge base, improved ability to track user intent, and greater emotional intelligence make it useful for tasks like improving writing, programming, and solving practical problems,” OpenAI wrote.
With over 400 million weekly active users, OpenAI aims to bring GPT-4.5 to those with ChatGPT Plus and Team subscriptions next week.
GPT-4.5 is available in advance through Microsoft Azure AI Foundry. Microsoft has invested over $13 billion in OpenAI and has incorporated the startup's models into its products. The company also helps provide computing resources to OpenAI.
The launch of the AI model comes a month after markets reacted to the efficient approach of the Chinese version of DeepSeek. The market capitalization of Nvidia, whose chips are widely used in AI model developers, fell by almost $600 billion in a single day.
Altman said GPT 4-5 would be followed later by GPT-5, which would be based on a wider variety of OpenAI technology. The company also offers so-called reasoning models, which perform calculations as people ask questions. GPT-4.5, by comparison, would be the last model without the “chain of thought” process.
