The number of foreign companies in Albania is increasing / They are led by those from EU countries, with a focus on services and trade

According to data published by INSTAT, the number of foreign enterprises operating in Albania has marked a slight increase, reflecting the continued presence of foreign capital in the Albanian economy. At the end of 2024, there were a total of 7,007 foreign and joint ventures in our country, an increase of 1% from the previous year.
INSTAT data also shows a continuous increase in the total number of enterprises operating in the country over the last three years. The largest part of this number is made up of enterprises with 100% Albanian ownership, which reached nearly 230 thousand, marking a significant increase compared to almost 219 thousand a year earlier.
As for enterprises with foreign capital, the majority of them are 100% foreign-owned enterprises. Their number reached almost 5,500, while Albanian-foreign joint enterprises have marked a slight decrease.
According to INSTAT data, enterprises originating from European Union countries account for the largest share of foreign and joint ventures in Albania. They represent on average 60.7% of the total, indicating a strong presence of investments from EU countries in the Albanian economy. Foreign and joint ventures from European Union countries are dominant in the activities of: Services (26.4%), Trade (11.6%) and Industry (9.2%). On the other hand, the Western Balkan countries account for about 11.9% of these enterprises, also reflecting regional economic cooperation and the interest of investors from neighboring countries in the Albanian market.
Overall, the data show that Albania continues to remain an attractive destination for foreign investments, while the increase in the number of enterprises indicates a gradual development of economic activity and cooperation with international partners.
Also, foreign and joint ventures accounted for 18.8% of total employment and 20.4% of net sales.
