Albania chooses "dramas"/ How do Europeans' tastes in films and series change?

Albanians prefer dramas more than any other genre of film or series. This is what an analysis of streaming platforms shows, where Albania ranks among the countries that consume the most dramatic content.
The data was published by "Visual Capitalist", based on FlixPatrol statistics for the first quarter of 2026, and shows that drama clearly dominates in countries such as Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Croatia and North Macedonia.
According to the analysis, Albanians' preference for dramas is related to their continued interest in emotional stories, family tension, social conflicts, and strong characters, elements that continue to dominate the most watched series on Netflix and other streaming platforms.
Meanwhile, the rest of Europe presents a much more diverse picture.
Central and Eastern Europe is dominated by science fiction (“sci-fi”). Countries such as Poland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Spain result in the highest interest in futuristic series and films.
Another interesting detail is Greece, where the most popular genre is fantasy, while Sweden is the only European country where "horror" tops the list.
On the other hand, comedy remains the top choice in Germany, Austria, Denmark and Switzerland, while animation dominates in Portugal and Cyprus.
Streaming industry experts say that, although Netflix, Disney+ and global platforms are increasingly standardizing content, local tastes continue to remain strong and closely tied to the culture of each country.
We emphasize that FlixPatrol monitors the rankings and performance of movies and series on streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and others every day. The data is based on the most watched and "trending" content in each country, analyzing the performance of titles on VOD platforms.
