Albania marks the new peak of passion for antique art/ About 39.2 million lek imports. Almost 99.9% of them come from Italy

September of this year marked an interesting moment for the trade of works of art and antiques in Albania. According to official data published by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), imports for the chapter “Works of art, collectibles and antiques” reached the value of 39.2 million lek, setting an absolute record in the history of trade statistics of the country.
This import level not only exceeds any previous monthly value, but represents an increase of over 11%, compared to the previous high value month, December 2010, when around 35.2 million lek were recorded in this category.
Imports of works of art and antiques have traditionally been volatile in Albania. Monthly values have fluctuated from a few thousand lekë to several million, with sporadic peaks in 2010, 2015, 2018 and 2023.
In September 2025, the structure of the import of works of art and antiques shows an absolute dominance by Italy, which accounts for 99.9% of the total, with a value of 39 billion lek. This level places Italy as the main source of works of art that have entered Albania during this month, leaving other countries far behind. China ranks second with only 45,707 lek, while Germany and Greece contribute 26,310 lek and 22,822 lek, respectively.
The record import of works of art in September 2025 is more than a statistic, it is an indicator of the new cultural and economic dynamics taking shape in Albania.
“Works of art, collectibles and antiques” typically include imports of high-value objects (paintings, sculptures, antiques), often purchases for museums, private collectors or international auctions.
