How much agricultural land does each Albanian have on average? About 4,400 square meters per inhabitant, we rank in the middle of the region

Albania has about 1.04 million hectares of agricultural land, according to international data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), compiled by the World Bank. This area translates to about 10,440 square kilometers or 4,033 square miles of land that is classified as agricultural.
In FAO statistics, the term “agricultural land” has a broader meaning than that often used in national statistics. In addition to arable land and permanent crops such as orchards and vineyards, this category also includes pastures and meadows used for livestock. For this reason, the total area of agricultural land according to international statistics is larger than the figures usually mentioned in domestic statistics.
When the area of agricultural land in Albania is compared to the population of about 2.36 million inhabitants, it turns out that the country has approximately 0.44 hectares of agricultural land per inhabitant, or about 4,400 square meters per person.
In the Western Balkans region, the area of agricultural land per capita varies significantly from one country to another. According to calculations based on the area of agricultural land and population, North Macedonia has about 0.69 hectares of agricultural land per inhabitant, while Serbia has about 0.51 hectares per person.
Albania ranks at an intermediate level with 0.44 hectares per capita, followed by Montenegro with about 0.41 hectares per person, while Bosnia and Herzegovina has about 0.35 hectares of agricultural land per capita.
Australia leads by a wide margin, as it has vast areas of grassland and only about 26 million inhabitants. It is followed by countries such as Russia, Brazil and the United States of America, which also have large agricultural territories in relation to their population. In contrast, although China leads the world in total area of agricultural land, when this area is divided among over 1.4 billion inhabitants, agricultural land per capita is significantly lower.
