More women drivers on Albanian roads/ Age group 25-34 with the highest number of driving licenses for both genders

Having a car and a driver's license is no longer seen as a luxury, but as a necessity, especially for those living in the capital and large cities. Daily movement, work, family obligations or simply the desire for independence have made the car an inseparable part of urban life.
According to the analysis of "Scan Intel", based on statistics from the General Directorate of Road Transport, from 2020 to 2024, an increase in the number of citizens obtaining a driving license is observed. But what is most striking is the increase in the number of women obtaining a license, which has increased significantly compared to four years ago.
In 2020, there were about 1 million registered drivers, of which 76.9% were men and only 23.1% were women. In 2024, this ratio has changed significantly: men make up 70.8% of active drivers, while women now make up 29.2%. In total, the number of active driving licenses has reached over 1.1 million.
The trend is clear: the majority of women who have obtained a license belong to the 25–34 age group, with around 129 thousand active driving licenses. The higher the age, the fewer women appear behind the wheel, an indication that the younger generations are gradually breaking the traditional stereotype.
According to the regional breakdown, Tirana leads with over 214 thousand male drivers and 150 thousand female. Durrës and Elbasan are ranked after it. In smaller cities, the number of drivers remains lower, not only due to population, but also due to the fact that the difference between male and female drivers remains even more pronounced.
