How much does it cost to live alone in Albania? Two adults with children spend

Monthly consumption expenditures in Albania increased during 2024 in all categories of families, reflecting a slight increase in the well-being and purchasing power of Albanian families, but also in the level of prices. Official INSTAT data show that the average monthly expenditure for a family reached 93,042 lek, from 91,675 lek a year earlier. So about 1,300 lek more.

If we look at the size of families, the figures show that the larger the household, the higher the total expenses. A family of four spends an average of 111,681 lek per month, while one with five or more people reaches 115,729 lek. Compared to 2023, all family groups have recorded an increase in consumption, from 2 to 12%, with higher rates for families with two and three people, a sign that the small family segment is feeling the effects of rising incomes more strongly.

But how much do families with children consume?

The increase in consumption is also noted in the breakdown by typology. Families with two adults and children spend 106,042 lekë this year, up from 92,476 lekë a year ago, an increase of over 14%. This family typology has the highest increase in consumption. Families with three or more adults with children have also increased consumption by about 6%, reaching 115,654 lekë per month. This expansion shows a trend towards broader consumption, especially in categories such as food, transportation, services and education.

Two adults with children spend about 27 thousand lek more than two adults without children. Meanwhile, on the other hand, a single person with dependent children spends about 23 thousand lek more than a single person.

On the other hand, people living alone remain the category with the lowest, but also most stable, expenses, at 56,895 lek per month, up from 55,940 lek in 2023. For this group, the increase is minimal, which may be related to a natural limit to individual consumption and the fact that many of them live on limited budgets.

The category most exposed to the cost of living remains that of single people with dependent children, where monthly expenses have increased to 80,257 lek, from 74,120 lek a year earlier. This increase reflects not only the greater consumption needs of small families with children, but also the challenges that single parents face in covering expenses.
