About 5.3% of active enterprises in Albania are foreign-owned or have joint ventures with international partners, according to the latest official data. The largest investors come from Italy, which represents 41.8% of the total of these enterprises, although with a decrease. It is followed by Kosovo with 8.3% and Turkey with 6.5%. The data show a diverse presence of foreign capital in the Albanian economy, which supports a number of key sectors, contributing to employment, innovation and economic growth.

At the top of the list of economic activities where foreign investors are concentrated is the other services sector, with around 2,895 enterprises, while trade ranks second with around 1,500 foreign and joint ventures. These sectors have traditionally attracted foreign capital due to high turnover and low barriers to market entry.

But what stands out is the accommodation and food services sector, where investments from countries outside the European Union are more numerous than those from the EU itself, 195 against 144. This fact underlines an increasingly greater interest in Albanian tourism from investors from countries such as Turkey, Kosovo, but also from the wider region. While Albania continues to position itself as a growing tourist destination, foreign capital in this area can play a key role in developing the hosting infrastructure, improving the quality of service and creating new jobs.

Other sectors, such as industry and information and communications, also represent areas with potential for foreign investment, especially if fiscal policies are improved and a stable business climate is guaranteed.
