Thermal insulation or gas system, which is more useful for Albanian families?! Possibilities for reducing energy costs

Thermal insulation or gas system, which is more useful for Albanian families?!

The heating of residential premises constitutes an important component of energy consumption for Albanian families, especially during the cold periods of the year when energy demands are high. Currently, over 40% of the energy used in the home is dedicated to heating and cooling. In this context, the choice of heating sources and the way of managing energy consumption become critical decisions for Albanian families.

But what is more beneficial, the gas system or energy efficiency?

To calculate the cost of the gas system, we will base it on the published data for the implementation of the gasification project of the city of Korça. This project will cost 20.8 million euros and most of the 13.3 million euros will have to be invested by the residents. According to the document, the number of consumers includes 6,074 housing units, so a family will contribute nearly 2,200 euros for the gasification system.

How much does energy efficiency cost?

Efficiency refers to a system that enables the lowest possible use of energy, but without being necessary to reduce it. So in short, getting the same service, but at a lower cost. An intervention that can help improve energy efficiency is thermal insulation of the house.

But how much should we pay for thermal insulation?

The total cost of thermal insulation for the external walls of a house is about 2,050 ALL/m². This price includes all necessary costs, including painting, priming, sanding and cleaning the surface where the system will be installed. If we take an apartment of 100 m2, it turns out that the cost of implementing thermal insulation will be 205,000 ALL or 2,088 euros.

Thermal insulation is an investment made to reduce monthly energy costs. But in factual terms, how much would an Albanian family's bill be for heating before and after thermal insulation? According to the "ALL GREEN CENTER" study, it turns out that a family in Albania is heated up to 5 months a year with an average duration of 8-10 hours. For a family that uses wood as a heating source, if it does not implement a thermal insulation system, it will spend about 83,250 Lek per year for heating, while if it uses a thermal insulation system, the maximum annual consumption will be only 54,025 Lek, thus saving nearly 30,000 Lek per year. While a family that uses electricity spends an average of 77,616 Lek per year if the living environment is not thermally insulated and 49,950 Lek per year if the family has chosen to use thermal insulation. This would translate into a monthly saving of 5,553 ALL or 27,666 ALL less per year.
