EU membership, with challenges for the banking sector - Sejko: BSH, responsible for two essential chapters of European legislation
The Bank of Albania in cooperation with the Albanian Association of Banks have organized the annual conference, with the aim of analyzing the key role of the central bank and the banking system in Albania's path towards the European Union.
The governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, said that one of the biggest challenges facing the banking sector on the road to European integration is the full exposure to competition between this sector and the European one, as a result of the free movement of capital.
"We are an integral part of the working groups for five chapters and lead two of them, Chapter 4 "Free movement of capital" and Chapter 17 "Economic and monetary policies". In itself, this process means a complete harmonization of our legal and regulatory framework with the Acquis Communautaire, and we are aware that this process will have its challenges. The free movement of capital also means full exposure to competition between this sector and the European one."
The President of the Albanian Association of Banks, Bledar Shella, listed some of the tasks that the banking sector must fulfill within the framework of integration into the European Union.
According to Eduard Shalsi, the Economic Growth Plan will further accelerate the convergence with the European Union.
In terms of structural reforms, the Bank of Albania has focused on two important directions: increasing the stability and efficiency of the banking system, as well as the further development of financial markets, payment instruments and financial education.
Headline: At the annual conference of the Bank of Albania and the Albanian Association of Banks, Governor Sejo stated that the Central Bank is responsible for the alignment with two essential chapters of European legislation. According to him, Albania's membership in the EU comes with a series of challenges for the banking sector.
