How much and for what do Albanians use gas? Analysis of heat sources and

Firewood and coal are the main source of heating for Albanian families. The latest data available from INSTAT show that almost half of the families use stoves to heat their homes, while electricity ranks second with 46.3% of families and gas in third place with 4% of families .

The highest percentages of families that use gas as the main source of heating are recorded in the Durrës district with 6.1%. After Durrës follows Tirana with 5.8% and Lezha with 5.4%. What is noticeable from the figures of previous years is the decrease in the use of gas for heating.

In the region of Tirana, the highest percentage of the use of electricity as the main source of heating was recorded with 69.6%, followed by the region of Vlorë. On the other hand, the highest percentages of families that used "firewood or coal" as the main source of heating were recorded in Kukës, Dibër, and Korçë counties.

But which are the counties that do not use gas as a heating source?

Dibra, Gjirokastra and Kukësi are the counties that do not use gas for heating.

If we analyze the data of the "Balkan Barometer" regarding the main sources of heating in the region, we see that the trend is the same as in Albania. Electricity and wood are the main sources of heating, except in the case of Serbia, where about 32% of households have stated that they use fossil fuels.

However, a number of studies in our country have assessed that the high costs of meeting heating remain a challenge, while many families risk falling into energy poverty.

According to the latest data from EUROSTAT, heating sources in Europe are diverse and include a wide range of energies. Natural gas remains one of the main sources of heating for many European countries. Renewable energies, fossil fuels and electricity are also used for heating, especially in combination with new technologies such as induction heating and electric resistance heating.

Meanwhile, Some of the European countries that use more renewable energy for heating are Sweden with 69.3%, Estonia with 65.4% and Latvia with 61%.
