How much does a GB of internet cost in Albania? We pay more than our neighbors, but it's affordable globally
The Internet is an integral part of daily life for many users, becoming necessary for social and personal functions. But like everything else, its use has a cost, especially on mobile phones, where it is used more for personal needs. But how much does 1 GB of internet cost in countries around the world and Albania?
According to the “Scan Intel” analysis, based on Global Relocate data, in Albania 1 GB of internet costs $1.55, placing our country in the world average for the price of internet on mobile phones. When compared to other countries in the region, Montenegro is the country with the cheapest internet, with only $0.32/GB, while Serbia and North Macedonia have average costs of $0.58 and $0.86/GB, respectively. In addition to Albania, the countries with the highest prices are Bosnia and Herzegovina with $1.03/GB and Kosovo with $1.25/GB.
Globally, the cheapest internet is in Israel, at just $0.02/GB, thanks to heavy investments in technology and developed infrastructure. Fiji comes in second at $0.09/GB due to the continued expansion of fiber optic networks, while Italy closes the top three cheapest internet leaders, also at $0.09/GB.
On the other hand, the most expensive internet is used in Zimbabwe, where one GB costs $43.75, due to economic instability, inflation and lack of infrastructure. The Falkland Islands take second place at $40.58/GB, while St. Helena Island is in third place at $40.13/GB, due to geographical remoteness and low population density.
So, while some countries offer practically free internet, in some other places the cost of 1 GB can be unaffordable, making a big difference among global users.
