Forecasts/ How many flights and passengers will Rinas reach? Analysis of the numbers: Expectations for Tirana Airport in 2025
The growth of Tirana International Airport has been rapid, and along with the recovery after the pandemic, a radical development has been seen in many aspects, such as expanding capacities or adding new routes.
According to figures previously analyzed by "Scan Intel", Tirana Airport was ranked among the airports with the highest growth in Europe, compared to the pre-pandemic period, but also to more recent periods.
The year 2025 looks set to continue the success it left behind in 2024 and is giving clear signals that it will be an even better year for tourism. Scan Intel's projections speak of a figure of around 82 thousand flights expected this year.
But how was this figure reached?
"Scan Intel" has made a simple calculation based on INSTAT data over the past four years, or the period after the pandemic, to see the trend in the number of flights and to make a forecast based on this trend.
In 2024, the number of flights in our country was recorded at around 69 thousand, marking a significant increase of 34%, compared to the previous year, or around 17 thousand more.
In 2021, 2022 and 2023 the number of flights was estimated at 26 thousand, 39 thousand and 51 thousand respectively.
So, in a four-year period, it seems that the number of flights has increased by approximately 14 thousand flights, if we take the average. Meanwhile, the absolute increase from 2021 to 2023 has been constant at around 12 thousand flights.
If we take for granted the average increase of 14 thousand flights, we can say that next year the number of flights could reach around 82 thousand.
But what can be predicted if this trend continues at the same pace in the coming years?
It can then be concluded that in the next 5 years the number could exceed 100,000 flights. But of course such a rapid growth will bring the need for further expansion of capacities, investments and an improvement of infrastructure.
If we do the same exercise with the number of airline passengers, we can see how the numbers move and how many passengers can be projected for the current year.
From 2021 to 2024, the number of passengers traveling on airlines has increased by an average of 2.5 million. If we take this figure into account, in 2025 the number of passengers could reach 13.5 million.
