More young people work on temporary contracts/ Men and people with low education are most affected
The Albanian labor market is showing an increasingly visible trend towards employment with temporary contracts, especially for young people just entering the labor market. According to data published by INSTAT, the share of employees with temporary contracts has increased in several categories during 2025, indicating that sustainable employment remains a challenge for many young people.
The 15-24 age group recorded the highest level of temporary contracts. The percentage of young people employed with this type of contract increased from 10.9% in 2024 to 14.2% in 2025, an increase of 3.3 percentage points.
The increase is even stronger among men. According to statistics, 17.1% of men in the 15-24 age group work on temporary contracts, up from 11.9% a year earlier. Among women in the same age group, the indicator increased more slightly, from 9.8% to 10.3%.
The 20-24 and 25-29 age groups also continue to have a significant share of temporary contracts, which indicates that the transition from education to stable employment continues to be a difficult process for many young people.
At the national level, temporary contracts represent 4.7% of total employment in 2025, a level similar to the previous year, but the dynamics vary significantly by age and educational level.
Another important indicator is the impact of education on employment security. People with 8/9 years of education are found to be more exposed to temporary contracts. In this category, their share increased from 6.7% to 8.5%, while for young people aged 15-24 with this level of education it reached 21.4%, the highest level in the entire table.
In contrast, those with higher education continue to have the most secure contracts. Only 2.9% of employees with a university degree work on temporary contracts, down from 3.2% in 2024.
Figures suggest that higher education remains a protective factor for more stable employment, while young people and people with lower educational levels continue to be the groups most exposed to insecurity in the labor market.
