Economic freedom, Albania leaves the region behind/ We improve in score as a result of good performance of fiscal health
Albania is ranked 50th out of 176 countries in total in the Index of Economic Freedom for 2025, published by the Heritage Foundation.
The 2025 index, which takes into account policies and economic conditions in countries around the world from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, reveals a global economy that, taken as a whole, remains "largely unfree."
In this index, Albania is rated with 66.6 points, out of a total of 100. Compared to last year, our country has improved its score.
Another positive development for Albania is the fact that, in this classification, it ranks first in the region, leaving behind Serbia (64th place), Montenegro (67th place), North Macedonia (73rd place), Bosnia and Herzegovina (70th place) and most recently Kosovo (78th place).
What is striking is that Albania's ranking in 50th place has left behind several countries with great economic development and well-being in Europe, such as Spain and France. In this classification, Albania holds 27th place among European countries.
In terms of the main pillars, Albania has performed better, accumulating more points in terms of tax burden, fiscal health and trade freedom. Meanwhile, we have a less positive assessment in terms of government integrity and labor freedom.
If we analyze the countries in total, we see that the three economically freest countries in the world are Singapore, Switzerland, and Ireland.
