Foreign investments, Turkey confirmed as first/ Around 1.6 billion euros of FDI in one year. Changes are observed in the geography of countries
Foreign direct investments in our country last year reached 1.58 billion euros, recording the highest value in annual terms. Thus, official figures from the Bank of Albania show that in 2024, foreign direct investment flows in our country increased by 5.7%, while in 2023 they were fixed at around 1.49 billion euros.
Meanwhile, with 423 million euros in foreign direct investment, the last quarter of last year registered a historical maximum. The annual growth is estimated at 7.4%.
These figures, in turn, have "produced" another record, with the stock of foreign direct investment reaching a new high of 15.4 billion euros in the last quarter of last year, up from 14.9 billion in the previous quarter. In the space of a year, the stock of foreign direct investment has increased by about 2 billion euros.
But the figures also show a resizing of the geography of foreign direct investment in our country. Over the past year, Turkey has been confirmed in first place, channeling almost 16.2% of direct investment in Albania, which translates into 257.3 million euros. Meanwhile, Italy has climbed to second place, with about 12.6% of the total. Turkey, in the past year, has "kidnapped" the position of the Netherlands, which has had a decrease in weight from 20% in 2023, to 11% in 2024.
Investments from Kosovo appear to have increased in weight throughout 2024 and have accounted for about 6% of the total. What is also noticeable, among other things, is the increase in the weight of investments from confidential sources to the total.
