The map changes, which are the most indebted municipalities? - The stock of liabilities to businesses and citizens reaches 33 million euros
The local government results in a stock of liabilities to businesses and citizens worth 3.3 billion lek or 33 million euros at the end of December 2024.
According to data from the Ministry of Finance, what is noticeable is that there is a very slight decrease in debts compared to September 2024, but compared to December 2023, the performance has been positive, as the decrease in this stock is recorded by approximately 15 million euros.
The obligation imposed by the government to redeem the stock appears to be moving in the right direction, as now every municipality in the country no longer reaches the value of 1 billion lek, which was previously common.
Official data from the Ministry of Finance shows that of the total arrears to businesses and citizens, 933 million lek are unpaid obligations for public investments, 528 million lek for services, around 380 million lek for court decisions and 1.3 billion lek for other expenses.
But has the ranking of municipalities with the most debts changed and which ones are at the top? Referring to the list, the value of the debts that municipalities have is not necessarily related to their surface area or population, except for the Municipality of Tirana.
Specifically, the Municipality of Kavaja ranks first, leaving behind Tirana, which has been in the lead for a long period. Kavaja results with a value of liabilities of approximately 738 million lekë.
Next in line is the municipality of Tirana with 570 million lek in debt, the lowest figure recorded in years, followed by the municipality of Pogradec with 238 million lek, then comes the municipality of Rrogozhina with 161 million lek and Vora with 154 million lek, leaving the turn to Dimal, Dibra and Cerrik.
What is noticeable is that from the top list of 5 municipalities with the most liabilities compared to September 2024, Lezhë has dropped and Vora has improved in the ranking.
While at the bottom of the list of municipalities in terms of the value of debts are the municipalities of Malësi e Madhe, Kuçovë, Korçë, Has, and Patos.
Municipalities were required to submit to the Ministry of Finance a detailed plan for the repayment of the stock of liabilities and to adhere to it.
