Albania-Italy discussion on bilateral relations and recent economic developments!
The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, received in an official meeting the new Ambassador of Italy to our country, H.E. Marco Alberti, with whom he discussed the ties and initiatives that deepen the partnership between the two countries in many sectors and current economic developments.
During the meeting, Governor Sejko briefed the Ambassador on financial developments in the country and in the Eurozone, analyzing their impact on the Albanian economy. He expressed the Bank of Albania's readiness to contribute to supporting sustainable economic growth. In this context, he considered the continuation of structural reforms to be very important, which will contribute to strengthening the country's economic and financial stability.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to the Bank of Italy for the help and technical assistance provided in various areas of central banking. He also highlighted the importance of the official opening of the negotiations for the first Chapter Group with the European Union (EU), as a historic moment in Albania's journey towards EU integration.
On the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the National Bank of Albania, the Governor brought to attention the valuable contribution of Italy to the establishment of the first national banking institution, which developed the country's monetary and financial policy. During these 100 years, the Bank of Albania has gone through various challenges, from economic and political changes to the transition to a free market. With a rich history and a clear vision for the future, the Bank of Albania enters its second century as a key institution in guaranteeing the country's economic stability.
For his part, Marco Alberti praised the role that the Bank of Albania has played in financial stability and the positive impact of monetary policy on price stability in the country. The measures taken by the Bank of Albania have contributed to Albania having one of the lowest inflation rates and one of the highest economic growth rates in the region.
Ambassador Alberti also congratulated Governor Sejko on the increase in the rating for Albania by Standard & Poor's, confirming a "stable" outlook, an assessment that comes as a result of the stable economic performance over the past years, and improves the country's image among foreign investors. The Ambassador further congratulated the Governor on Albania's admission to the SEPA geographical area under the leadership and coordination of the Bank of Albania, as part of the regional project "On the modernization of payment systems in the Western Balkan countries".
The Governor stated that one of the strategic objectives of the Bank of Albania is the modernization of payment systems, where he assessed as very fruitful the close cooperation with the Bank of Italy and the European Central Bank, which was crowned with Albania's membership in the Single Euro Payments Market.
In conclusion, the parties evaluated the cooperative relations between the two countries as a strong example of long-term and sustainable partnership in all areas, while emphasizing the prospect of further expansion and development, especially in terms of economic and trade cooperation.
