Private pension fund market expands - AFSA 2025 Report: Net asset value, 9.8

The private pension fund market has continued its upward trend, in terms of net asset value and number of members. Referring to the 2025 report of the Financial Supervisory Authority (AMF) deposited in the Parliament, compared to 2024, the net asset value of this market at the end of 2025 reached 9,855 billion lek, with an increase of 21.55%. Meanwhile, the number of members reached 49,218, marking an increase of 11.19% compared to the end of 2024.

According to the report, during 2025, 7 pension funds operated in the private pension fund market, one of which started its activity again during the year, administered by 4 management companies, which, in addition to administering pension funds, are also licensed to administer collective investment undertakings.

Private pension fund market investments at the end of 2025 reached 9,489 billion lekë, marking an increase of 20.69% compared to 2024. Investments were mainly focused on Government bonds, accounting for a share of 96.02% of total pension fund market assets.

During 2025, an investment in bonds issued by banks and non-bank financial institutions, which are not traded on a regulated market, was made in the amount of 10 million lek. This investment represents 0.1% of the total assets of the private pension fund market.

According to the AFSA report, capital markets have continued the upward trend in the private placement bond segment, marking a further consolidation of this financial instrument. The outstanding amount of these bonds reached around 39.1 billion lek at the end of 2025, marking an increase of around 38% compared to the previous year.

At the same time, in addition to transactions in government securities and domestic corporate bonds, an increase in banks' activity in trading foreign financial instruments on behalf of clients was also evident during 2025. The lek equivalent of the total trading volume of these instruments reached about 9.6 billion lek, or about 9.1% more compared to the previous year.
